Students on the Move

The aim of the Students on the Move programme is to promote physical activity and study ability among upper secondary students.

Introduction

The Students on the Move programme supports the physical activity and study ability in Vantaa's upper secondary schools and Varia Vocational College. The aim is to encourage upper secondary students to be more physically active and to support schools in developing more active learning environments and school cultures.

In collaboration with student health services the Students on the Move offers free, personalized wellbeing coaching for students who need support in increasing physical activity a
nd adopting a healthy lifestyle. Student physical activity is also promoted through sports courses, trial sessions in different sports, and joint tournaments for upper secondary schools in Vantaa.

  • On weekdays during the school year.

Free swimming and Gym Access for Students

Students attending upper secondary schools, Steiner School Upper Secondary, Mercuria Business College, vocational qualification programmes, and TUVA education in Vantaa are entitled to free access to Vantaa city swimming halls (Hakunila, Martinlaakso, Myyrmäki, Tikkurila) on weekdays between 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM. This benefit also applies to Vantaa residents who study upper secondary education in other municipalities. Students may continue swimming or gym training after 4:00 PM as long as they have entered the swimming hall before 4:00 PM. In addition, the Korso swimming hall is available on weekdays during its opening hours from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Required Documents to Access the Benefit

  1. Students attending upper secondary schools, Steiner School Upper Secondary, Mercuria, vocational qualification programmes or TUVA education in Vantaa: a student ID card OR a certificate issued by the school AND a valid photo ID
  2. Vantaa residents studying upper secondary education outside of Vantaa: a student ID card OR a certificate issued by the school and a valid photo ID AND a certificate of residence from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency OR a "Certificate of Vantaa residency" available from Vantaa Info 
     

Wellbeing Coaching and Physical Activity Counselling

Students on the Move programme offers free, personalised wellbeing coaching for students who need support in increasing their physical activity and adopting a healthy lifestyle. The aim is to encourage and guide students toward independent physical activity and more active daily routines, while promoting overall wellbeing. The content and duration of the coaching are tailored to the student’s needs and preferences. The coaching lasts approximately 3–4 months and can also be credited with study points.

Students can also participate in individual physical activity counselling or guidance sessions, such as gym equipment instruction.
