Schools on the Move

The aim of the Schools on the Move programme is to promote a culture of physical activity in basic education and support the expertise and well-being of school personnel.

Introduction

The aim of the Schools on the Move programme is to promote a culture of physical activity in basic education and support the expertise and well-being of school personnel. The programme was launched in Vantaa in 2010. The programme coordinators organise free training courses, workshops and sports campaigns and events for 46 comprehensive schools in Vantaa. The schools also have the opprotunity to borrow sports equipment free of charge for 1-2 weeks at a time in order to make their PE classes and breaks more diverse. The coordinators include pupils in the planning of Active Learning Environments projects and school yard renovations.

Cooperation

The Schools on the Move programme strives to cooperate as extensively as possible with both the city’s own services and external operators. The programme cooperates closely with the providers of basic education, facility management services, pupil welfare services and the Day-care Centres on the Move and Students on the Move programmes, among other operators. Nurses and school social workers can hand out free swimming hall and gym passes on a socio-economic basis and recommend low-threshold sports clubs and summer camps to children.

At hobihobi.fi, you can find all sports clubs operating in Vantaa and other recreational activities for children. Other important programme partners include sports clubs, sport associations and other municipalities.
