The objective of TEPPO operations is to support the students in recognising their own strengths and promote their motivation, sense of responsibility, agency and decision-making skills. The young people will learn working life skills and gain knowledge of working life, capabilities for planning their career and experiences of different jobs and workplaces.
TEPPO is intensive student counselling for 8th and 9th grade students. The studies of TEPPO students alternate on-the-job training periods at workplaces with teaching that takes place at school. The students have five to seven on-the-job training periods in total over a school year. Rest of the time, TEPPO students will study in their own local school in their own class and follow the standard curriculum of lower secondary school.
TEPPO programme is suitable for all students, regardless of whether the student aims to continue their education in a vocational or general upper secondary school or whether they are yet undecided on what they wish to do in the future. The focus on working life can also be considered a form of support for integration in Finnish society and learning the Finnish language, for example. You can apply for the TEPPO programme of your school in spring.
The flexible working life-oriented education follows the curriculum of Vantaa basic education. A TEPPO guidance counsellor guides the working life-oriented education at the school, and the studies are also supported by the school’s multidisciplinary team.
You can find out more about the TEPPO programme from your school’s principal or guidance counsellor.
