Education and training Families with children
Before- and after-school activities are meant for students in grades 1 and 2, as well as for older children who have a decision on special support. The city coordinates the activities, while the clubs are maintained by private actors, the congregation, as well as organizations and associations. After-school clubs mainly operate on schools' and congregations' premises.

Apply for after-school activities online on April. Before and after-school activities will be arranged during the school year. T
…hey will not be provided during holiday seasons or on exceptional school days or on Saturdays.

Prerequisites

Before- and after-school activities are meant for students in grades 1 and 2, as well as for older children who have a decision on special support.

Operating hours

After school activities will be arranged during the school year. The activities will not be provided during holiday seasons or on exceptional school days or on Saturdays.

After school activities operate daily from 12:00–16:00 or 12:00 to 17:00. The family shall choose in the service agreement the desired operating hours for the entire school year.

The organizers of the after school activities are entitled to have two staff training days per school year, on which day the operating unit is closed. The guardians will be informed of the staff training day at least two weeks in advance.

There are a total of 54 after school activity units in Vantaa with around 2600 children attending them.

You will find schools’ working times and vacations here.

It is possible to arrange morning activities, if there are enough participants.

In the school year 2025-2026, morning activities are arranged at Vantaa International school by Luna afternoon club Oy.

The organizer of morning activities decides on the fees.

A child participating in the after school activities may participate in the school’s other club activities also. Schools' club activities are arranged for 1st-9th graders. Schools’ club activities are voluntary and free of charge. The clubs are usually arranged after the school day on the school or nearby premises. The schools inform about their clubs and accept enrollments.

Apply for after school activities via online Wilma service

Application period for the school year 2026-2027 is March 26, 2026 - April 30, 2026. 1st and 2nd graders and older with a decision on special support, who submitted their applications during the application period and who are without a guardian at home after school, will receive a place in the after school activities beginning in the next school year.

You can also apply for after school activities throughout the year, but in this case, we cannot guarantee that all applicants receive a place in after school activities.

In January, guardians were mailed a notification of compulsory education including instructions for creating a Wilma account. The guardians enroll their children in school using the Wilma account, and the same account is used when applying for after school activities.

If you have problems creating an account, contact Vantaa info service point, your child's school or primuswilmatuki@vantaa.fi. You will find more information and help for using Wilma also here.

  1. Sign in to Wilma using a web browser

If you need any assistance with applying for after school activities (e.g., Wilma), you can go to a Vantaa Info service point. Vantaa Info will help you how to use Wilma, how to fill the application and how to send it.

You will find help for using Wilma also here.

If needed you can also contact Vantaa after school activities: iltapaivatoiminta@vantaa.fi.

If you have chosen a paper decision, it will be sent to the child's home address in the second week of June.

We cannot give any interim information about places in after school activities.

After school activities’ customer fees and payment relief

After school activities are subject to a charge. The guardians are charged a fixed monthly fee.

A daily snack is included in the customer fee. Everyone is also insured in case of an accident.

Compliant with §9 of the decision by Vantaa Education and Learning Committee on November 11, 2024, the customer fees for basic education after school activities as of August 1, 2025 are

  • 120 € month for daily activities ending at 16:00 and
  • 140 € month for activities ending at 17:00

The fees can be relieved 35% depending on the family's level of income. Relieved after school activity fees are

  • 78 € month for daily activities ending at 16:00 and
  • 91 € month for activities ending at 17:00

Guardians will be charged a fixed monthly fee by the organizer with the following exceptions:

  • No customer fee will be charged for activity days in June.
  • If the child begins at after school activities on the 20th day of the month or after, half of the monthly customer fee will be charged.
  • If a child cannot due to sickness participate in after school activities on more than 10 days per calendar month, half of the monthly fee will be charged. The sickness shall be verified with a medical certificate.
  • If absence due to sickness lasts for an entire calendar month, no charge will be collected. The sickness shall be verified with a medical certificate.
  • If the child cannot due to other reason participate in after school activities in an entire calendar month, half of the monthly fee will be charged. The organizer of after school activities shall be notified of these absences in writing well in advance.

No fee compensation will be paid for schools’ fall, Christmas and skiing holidays.

If a child's after school activities unit changes within Vantaa in the middle of a calendar month or at the turn of the month, the earlier organizer is not entitled to collect the fee for the following month.

Customer fees are collectible. The collection charges will be collected from the customer.
Late payment interest: If a customer fee is not paid by the due date, an annual late payment interest may be charged as of the due date in accordance with the Interest Act.

Compliant with §9 of the decision by Vantaa Education and Learning Committee on November 11, 2024, a 35% relief for the customer fee can be given, when your family income does not exceed the maximum gross income limit.

Concept of family and income

When determining the family size the following are accounted for: married couples or people living in the same household under marriage-like conditions, as well as their minors living in the same household. When required, the Basic Education profit center will check the data from the population register.

When determining relief of after school activities customer fee, counted as income are taxable earned income, income from capital and tax-free income of the following people living in the same household: child's parent or other guardian, people living under circumstances comparable with marriage.

Not counted as income: Child care allowance; child allowance; disability benefit and pension for 16-year-old recipients of care allowance and dietary grant, compliant with the Disability Act (570/2007); child increase compliant with the National Pensions Act (586/2007); housing allowance; health care and medical examination costs based on accident insurance; conscript's allowance; national front-veterans' supplement; study grant; study grant for mature students; financial aid for students' housing allowance; operating allowance paid as social assistance; travel allowance; maintenance allowance compliant with the Rehabilitation Allowance Act (566/2005); labor market maintenance allowance according to the Adult Education Act; grants and other corresponding allowances based on studying; family care allowances; and children's home care allowance.

Maintenance payments for children not living in the family will be accounted for as income reduction. Relief for the customer fee for each child in the same family will be handled on a child-specific basis by accounting for the whole picture.

Apply for payment relief for the next school year primarily in June after you have received a decision on your child’s participation in after school activities. Even later submitted applications will be accounted for, and you may gain relief retroactively for at max. from the beginning of the term.

Fill in the application form for payment relief:

  • Relief for customer fees granted on faulty grounds can be collected from the customer retroactively.

Cancelling a place in after school activities

The place in the after school activities can be terminated following the notice period.

The period of notice is one calendar month. The time is calculated from the last day of the calendar month when the notice was given. For example, if you cancel the agreement in January, the agreement will come to an end by the end of February, and the termination will enter into force on March 1.

The service agreement between the organizer of after school activities and the guardian

The organizer of the after school activities and the guardian will make a service agreement before the child starts the activities.

The organizer of after school activities fills the service agreement first and delivers it to the guardian to be filled and signed. Return the agreement to the organizer.

Service agreement on Vantaa’s after-school activities in basic education (531188e)(pdf, 189.31 KB)

Child information form instructions

This only applies to the after school activity units at Hämeenkylän koulu, Kaivokselan koulu and Kuusikon koulu, where the City of Vantaa acts as the organizer.

The guardian will be sent a link to the electronic Child information form after the child has received a place in after school activities at Hämeenkylän koulu, Kaivokselan koulu or Kuusikon koulu. The guardian will fill in the form before the activity starts.

1 Use and purpose of the service

The guardian can submit information about their child to the organizer of morning and afternoon club activities for schoolchildren on the form.
Based on §5 of the Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019), the purpose of the service is to provide the possibility of delivering the data related to a person’s transaction need by using digital services or other electronic data-transfer methods.

2 Processing personal data
The User can find information on processing their personal data and on exercising their rights in the information document: Processing personal data in morning and afternoon clubs for schoolchildren.

3 Instructions

3.1 The User is responsible for the correctness of the data they have provided on the form. The User is committed to informing of any changes in their data.

3.2 The User is committed to transacting appropriately and in accordance with good manners when using the system.

3.3 The User transacts in the service as an authenticated user. Authentication is based on §6.1 of the Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019). The City of Vantaa requires strong identification since the precondition for handling a form including personal data of children and guardians is that the User’s identity can be verified.

3.4 Compliant with §5 of the Central Government Joint e-Service Support Services (571/2016), the service utilizes Suomi.fi services, provided by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV). You will find the privacy statements related to Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s Suomi.fi services on the Suomi.fi website.

3.5 The City of Vantaa has the right to temporarily suspend the Service or a part of it due to maintenance, installation, alteration, general order and safety, system overload and/or another corresponding reason. The City of Vantaa strives to inform about changes and interruptions in the Service, essential to the contacting persons, in connection with the Service or by other means. The City of Vantaa also has the right to make changes in the Service.
You can also fill out the Tietoja lapsesta (“Child information”) form in paper form and return it to the after-school activities of your child's school.

3.6. The City of Vantaa collects log information on the service compliant with §17 of the Act on Information Management in Public Administration (906/2019), to monitor the use and disclosure of information, as well as to inspect technical errors.

3.7 In order to monitor the use of the service contents, cookies may be transferred to the computer of the contacting person. The cookies collect information on how the Service is used. The Service is further developed on the basis of this information. Individual persons cannot be identified by the information collected with the help of cookies.
