Vantaa’s anti-bullying work
On this page, we describe how we prevent and intervene in bullying in Vantaa. The anti-bullying work at Vantaa’s early childhood education units, primary and lower secondary schools and upper secondary education institutions is guided by Vantaa’s anti-bullying plan. The plan has been updated in January 2026. Children, young people and guardians were consulted when the plan was updated. You can find the full plan in PDF format at the bottom of this page.
This video shows an example of how we work to prevent and intervene in bullying in schools.
What is bullying?
Bullying is intentionally and repeatedly causing bad feelings, harm or pain to another in a way that makes it difficult for the bullied person to defend themselves. In this way, bullying differs from arguments and disagreements, for example.
Bullying may involve acts such as name-calling, badmouthing, shoving, hitting or leaving someone alone. Sometimes, bullying can be difficult to detect. This is why we make sure that children and the young understand the phenomenon and know how to get help.
Bullying violates the bullied person’s basic rights to freedom, integrity and safety, and causes many negative and often long-term effects. This is why we prevent bullying and immediately intervene in cases of bullying

How do we intervene in bullying in Vantaa?
Vantaa’s anti-bullying plan guides anti-bullying work in the education and learning department. In addition, each early childhood education unit, primary and lower secondary school and upper secondary education institution make their own plan for preventing and intervening in bullying, where the detailed operating methods of everyday life are set out. We make sure that all employees, guardians, children and young people are informed of this.
