Construction of the light rail from Aviapolis Station to Rälssitie

Aviapolis major region Transport Construction

Follow the progress of light rail construction between Aviapolis Station and Rälssitie. The construction sites are located in Aviapolis, Veromies and Pakkala. In the future, the light rail will travel from the airport to Pakkala, passing through Jumbo and the new aviation museum, among other stops.

The first tracks of the Vantaa light rail were installed at the Plootukallio worksite on 11 May 2026.

The Vantaa City Council approved the project plan on 17 November 2025, according to which the terminus will be located at the Aviation Museum. At the same time, the council requested the tram alliance to design the light rail to extend to the airport. The Vantaa City Council will review the proposal for terminus alternatives on 8 June. A decision on the location of the airport terminus will be made by the end of 2027.

Construction progress

Information will be updated as construction progresses. The preliminary schedule may change, for example due to weather conditions. We will provide more detailed information on upcoming work phases closer to their start. The page also includes links to news items where you can read more about current developments in the area.

May 2026

  • The first track installations of the Vantaa light rail were carried out at the Plootukallio worksite on 11 May 2026.
  • The southern part of Aviabulevardi was closed to vehicle traffic on 18 May. Alternative routes for vehicle traffic and buses are on Turbiinitie.
  • Relocation works of the 110 kV power line will continue on Elannontie until approximately the end of July.

June 2026

  • Construction of the Vantaa light rail will begin on Osuustie at the beginning of June. From 8 June, Osuustie will be closed to vehicle traffic between Antaksentie and Virkatie. Alternative routes for vehicle traffic are Pakkalantie and Lentoasemantie. Pedestrian and cycling routes will be maintained on Osuustie throughout construction, but their exact location may vary depending on the work phase.

July 2026

  • Relocation of municipal engineering and excavation works will continue.

August 2026

  • Construction will begin at Ilmailuaukio and in the Turbiinitie intersection area.

Autumn 2026

  • The southern part of Osuustie will be taken into use for worksite operations.
