Construction of the light rail from Aviapolis Station to Rälssitie

Follow the progress of light rail construction between Aviapolis Station and Rälssitie. In the future, the light rail will travel from the airport to Pakkala, passing through Jumbo and the new aviation museum, among other stops.

The construction sites are in the areas of Veromies and Pakkala, between Aviapolis Station, Muura, Pakkalanrinne and the Jumbo shopping centre.

The continuation of the light rail from Aviapolis Station to the airport and its final end station will be decided later.

Progress of construction

Information will be updated as construction progresses. The preliminary schedule may change due to weather conditions, for example. Page updated 28 January. 

January 2026

  • We will continue blasting works at Plootukallio.

February–March 2026

  • In February, we will start blasting works on Aviakuja.
  • In February, we will begin building temporary bus stops in the areas around Pakkalantie and Turbiinitie.
  • In March, we will open a new construction site access at Muuranaukio for Toinen Savu.
  • Starting from 2 March, bus routes on Toinen Savu will be redirected to Lentoasemantie and Pakkalantie — please check up-to-date bus schedules and information on HSL's channels.
  • Starting from 9 March, Toinen Savu will be closed to through vehicle traffic; alternative routes will be via Lentoasemantie and Pakkalantie. The pedestrian and cycling paths will remain open on the west side of Toinen Savu.
  • During March, we will begin relocating the power line south of Jumbo. The 110 kV power line will be converted into an underground cable south of Väinö Tannerin tie.

April 2026

  • Starting from 27 April, the section of Aviabulevardi between Karhumäenportti and Tikkurilantie will be taken into use for construction operations. The vehicle detour route will run via Turbiinitie. Buses will also be redirected to Turbiinitie — please check HSL's channels for up-to-date bus routes. A new bus turning and layover area will open on Aviakuja, which has been extended to Turbiinitie.
  • In April, we will prepare the southern side of Osuustie for construction use.

May 2026

  • In May, we will prepare the northern side of Osuustie for construction use.
  • We will build a power supply station on Osuustie near Ring Road III. There will be construction traffic in the area, and traffic on Osuustie may occasionally be slower due to traffic arrangements.

From June 2026 onwards

  • Starting in June, the northern side of Osuustie and later in the year the southern side will become construction areas.
  • From summer onwards, vehicle detour routes will run via Lentoasemantie/Pakkalantie. Virkatie will remain open for crossing traffic during construction.
  • The section of Osuustie between Antaksentie and Silvastientie will remain open for crossing traffic during construction.
